Meet Mike Searles, DataXu’s Director of Sales Planning & Client Development, based in the New York office. Mike’s been a XuKeeper for 2 years and has held a couple of different positions during his time at DataXu.
Explain your role at DataXu. What do you do? I manage the North American Sales Planning department. We work with the sales team to produce the best media recommendations to solve customer challenges.
How did you land at DataXu? I went to school in Boston (Go Northeastern!) and began my career working at a media agency. I worked at the agency for almost 8 years before switching to a role at brand. I was always aware of DataXu’s progress, but really became interested after a conversation with DataXu’s CRO, Ed Montes. Ed and I worked together previously and he’s someone whose opinion I really respect. I joined DataXu in 2014 and have been loving “the zoo” ever since!
Mike visited the VICE offices in Brooklyn to chat programmatic
What’s exciting you the most about DataXu’s future? The most exciting thing is our customers’ challenges will continue to evolve. This creates fun opportunities for DataXu to continually innovate and develop new solutions.
DataXu’s core values are: Excellence, Collaboration, Innovation, Trust and Customer Obsession. The value that resonates with you most is… Collaboration. The Sales Planning team’s primary focus is to enable our teammates success. We win when our colleagues are successful, which I love.
I say programmatic, you say…. The space is still maturing, which is exciting. The innovation DataXu is achieving within TV and Video is especially exciting. I’m particularly excited to see what TV advertising will look like in 5 years.
Mike visited The Home Depot in Atlanta with fellow XuKeepers
Most exciting aspect of Adtech: The LUMAscape charts are widely used to show the clutter in our industry, but competition breeds innovation and that’s a good thing.
How do you relax: I’m a sucker for Netflix and HBO shows.
Least favorite industry buzz word: Efficiency and effectiveness in the same sentence.
Favorite snack in the DataXu kitchen: Coffee! It might technically not be a snack, but we have a fun variety of bean types in our NYC office.
Fun fact: To stay healthy, I’ve started boxing. It’s a great workout!
Life advice: Be humble and kind.
