A Day in the Life of a XuKeeper: Drew


 

Welcome to the first edition of “A Day in the Life of a XuKeeper”, where you’ll get a behind the scenes look at some of the people at DataXu and what makes them tick. We’re kicking off the series with 3 year DataXu vet Drew Silverman, Sales Operations Manager at our Boston headquarters.

Explain your role at DataXu. What do you do?

I consider myself a jack of all trades.  My priorities often shift but I am currently focused on our go-to-market pricing strategy and execution, deal assurance and risk mitigation, sales enablement, sales metrics and analysis, and operational efficiency.  In short: I devour spreadsheets, solve problems, and help get deals done.

How did you land at DataXu?

I think by sheer luck.  I went to Clark University in Worcester, MA, where I majored in Government and International Relations and eventually received my Master’s in Public Administration.  My grandmother always told me that I should go into politics and I thought that someday that would be my calling (she said President; I thought Mayor was more likely).  After I completed my studies I went into management consulting where I focused on working with health and human services organizations at the state government level.  It was a fantastic experience but also incredibly exhausting – I traveled far more than I anticipated and it was not as glorious as I had imagined.  One night when on the road I stumbled upon DataXu and found an opening that fit my skillset so I applied immediately.  Thankfully it worked out.

What’s exciting you the most about DataXu’s future?

I think that most people would take this answer in the opposite direction, but for me, the fact that DataXu’s future is undetermined gets me up in the morning.  DataXu is only what its employees make of it.  I feel as though pieces of DataXu’s success lie with me and that’s a responsibility that I take incredibly seriously.  You get out what you put in and I refuse to lose.

Collaboration.  My idea of cross-functionality has been totally reinvented since I’ve started here.   I work with our product, marketing, finance, services, sales, and application engineering teams on a daily basis.  I am constantly learning new things from new people and being exposed to new parts of the business.  It keeps me nimble and hungry.
