A Day in the Life of a XuKeeper: Amanda

Meet Amanda Kimball, a Customer Success Manager based in the Boston office. Amanda has been a XuKeeper for 2 years, but she has multiple side hustles including fashion designer and music video star.

How do you explain your work to your friends/family? I start off by saying I work for an advertising technology company, and depending on their facial expression, I explain that we have a marketing and analytics platform that allows brands and agencies to bid on ad inventory using machine learning to serve it to the right person at the right time. Then I go on to say that I train customers on how to use our platform and to be successful with their media plans.

How did you land at DataXu? I double majored in Economics and Studio Art for my undergrand at Mount Holyoke College, so I needed to find an industry that allowed me to use my analytical mind and my creative thinking. I have dabbled in newspaper advertising, digital printing, experiential marketing, as well as consulting and financial management.  I landed in ad tech about 5 years ago at a startup and fell in love with the fast paced environment and ever changing technology. After my last job it became very important for me to work somewhere where people were passionate about what they were doing and at a company with great culture. DataXu fit the bill and the rest is history.

DataXu’s core values are: Excellence, Collaboration, Innovation, Trust and Customer Obsession… the value that resonates with you most is…. I would say Customer Obsession, without our customers we wouldn’t be able to do much. Being on a team where I get to interact with our customers daily I have been able to build some great relationships that I take pride in.

If you weren’t doing this for a living, what might you have ended up doing instead? Creating couture and avant garde gowns.  I have always wanted to be a fashion designer and I love experimenting with mix media.

What would you say is your greatest strength that translates to the workplace? Patience. Technology changes quickly and can be complicated, when you are trying to help people understand it all you have to make sure it’s done in a calm and positive way.

What is your life motto? Life is too short to be consumed by stress. Take a deep breath and tackle one thing at a time, you will be surprised with what you can accomplish.

Favorite perk of working at DataXu? Free lunch once a week is a pretty sweet perk!

Favorite snack in the DataXu kitchen? Chobani yogurt, perfect for breakfast or a healthy mid-day snack.

Favorite DataXu memory? For my first Innovation day I was a part of a team who put together a fun video called All About that Pace. It was the start of some great friendships and I had a lot of fun.

If you could have coffee with anyone, living or dead, who would it be? I would grab a drink with my grandmother, she passed away when I was younger and I would definitely appreciate her candor and thoughts on life now that I am an adult.

What is a fun fact about you? I created a line of handbags and had them featured in a couple of fashion shows.
