Your preparation guide for dmexco 2018

While some of us find time to relax and take a well-deserved break in August, the majority of us are using this month to prepare for one of Europe’s largest advertising and marketing events of the social calendar, dmexco.

Each September, Cologne is essentially brought to a standstill, with a host of Europe’s finest marketing and advertising specialists descending on the German city (the new ‘hipster’ hub according to some) for two days of networking, inspiration, and learning. And this year is no exception.

With 40,000 visitors attending dmexco each year, how is it possible to squeeze the most out of the two days and come away not feeling sleep deprived? Below are a few tips on how to make the most of your dmexco experience.

4 tips to take dmexco to the next level

1. Get ‘picky’ with speaking sessions

If you try to attend every speaking session at dmexco, there is no doubt you’ll burn yourself out. That’s why it’s important to carefully choose sessions in advance. The Congress and Debate stages are always popular with event goers, with some of the globe’s most high-profile speakers itching to present their take on this year’s marketing trends.

Aim to get at least two sessions in during the event. Feel free to view speaker announcements here or check out last year’s highlights.

2. Be prepared to network

Dmexco is the mecca of all networking events. There are so many opportunities to meet new people and develop relationships that it’s often hard to keep up.

One tip: the Agency Lounge located in hall 6 is always a popular haunt with visitors. If you have enough energy and haven’t exerted yourself at the end of day 1, you must attend the OM Unofficial Party.

3. Come prepared to discuss major themes & marketing trends

Dmexco is the perfect stomping ground to get the latest insights on the industry trends and themes. Last year, dmexco focused heavily on the GDPR predictions. Fast forward a year and, with GDPR now implemented, expect to see a lot of conversation on how these regulations are tracking.

Transparency was another major theme discussed last year, in particular, the importance of viewability and measurement. Expect to see this on the bill for dmexco 2018. As for Advanced TV, there will be a lot more conversation on how brands and agencies are implementing TV and digital strategies into their marketing budgets moving forward. Exciting times ahead.

4. Check out the sights

While Cologne has always been famous for its history and world-renowned Cathedral, that’s not all the city has to offer. There’s no denying it boasts some of Germany’s oldest traditional ‘beer-houses’, such as Peter’s Brauhaus, Gaffel am Dom and Früh. These beer houses are jam-packed during dmexco and the perfect venue for experiencing German culture at its finest.

If you get a chance to stay for the weekend, you must check out the trendy neighborhood of Ehrenfeld. It is a lively residential area of shops, studios, and cafes, as well as the Belgian Quarter (Belgisches Viertael).

We know that dmexco can seem stressful and overwhelming at times, but it’s also a lot of fun. This year the dataxu team will be at the World of Agencies Lounge in Hall 8. Stop by our stand and say hello or book a meeting with a member of our team today.

See you there!
