What’s Hot and What’s Not in 2013: 9 Trends for CMO Success

By R. Bruce Journey, Director, International & Co-founder

It’s a great time to be a CMO.

Bruce-Journey-DataXu-October-2012-150x150For the past 16 years, I have been an observer of, and a participant in transformative trends in marketing.  New, automated software tools are driving efficiencies not seen in the last 50 years. In 2013, they will finally reach scalable and strategic relevance, driving overall corporate success and profit.

While marketers may see the world as more complicated, the year ahead will be increasingly simplified. Equally as important, efficiencies in media costs, labor, and process will likely improve for the foreseeable future.

Here are nine trends to look for in the year ahead, and I unabashedly give my opinion on what’s hot and what’s not. Each of these trends are not necessarily new, but will finally achieve scale in 2013.

I welcome comments below. I will be writing on each of these subjects separately and in more detail in the weeks and months ahead.

As the writer Peter F. Drucker said:

“Efficiency is doing the thing right. Effectiveness is doing the right thing.”
