Every year in early March, over 60,000 people descend on Austin, TX for a multi-week showcase of the latest and greatest in interactive technology, film and music. Through keynote sessions, concerts, and networking events, South by Southwest (SXSW) finds itself at the center of emerging thought leadership and creativity. And perhaps a little chaos, too.
Last week, DataXu co-sponsored a Happy Hour with DWA Media, inviting clients and partners to gather together to network and celebrate past successes. The event fell at the end of the Interactive portion of the conference. The Happy Hour was spent listening to live music (of course), talking programmatic, and taking in the lively atmosphere on the rooftop of the Hangar Lounge. Topics of interest included the emergence of Programmatic TV, cross-device and mobile-first businesses, and the necessity of reaching a consumer with an omni-channel approach.
In addition to the Happy Hour, strategy sessions and networking events were held all over the city, ranging from BBQ’s and concerts on the bungalow-lined Rainey Street, to working sessions at Airbnb rentals and bars, all the way to relationship-building over tacos and queso. Austin is an eclectic mix of people, places, food, and ideas, and the South by Southwest festival is simply a vehicle through which all attendees are able to explore the amazing city. It’s no surprise why the event continues to attract notable names in all industries; even, for the first time this year, a sitting President of the United States.
The spirit of collaboration and inventiveness is in everything one sees and explores at SXSW. It’s hard not to feel inspired by all there is to experience.
